As the mother of a dyslexic child, finding the right help for my son was a stressful endeavor. Initially, his teachers didn’t even notice his struggles with reading because he was able to hide behind his advanced mathematical abilities and verbal skills. While we uncovered his troubles with language, I began to research his options.
First, I had him stay after school to receive extra help from his teachers. When it didn’t help, I hired good tutors who specialized in reading assistance. Unfortunately, he remained significantly behind, seemingly unaffected by all the extra effort. Finally, my research led me to a group of experts who understood and appreciated the dyslexic mind. They were Certified Academic Language Therapists, and once my son started working with their curriculum, I knew I’d found the help he needed.
There were few Academic Language Therapists working in my area at that time. So, I decided to get trained so that I could not only provide my son with the type of language education he required, but also help other bright dyslexic children realize their potential as well.
